The best stories here had well-defined characterization and a self-contained story with some unique elements: "Eight Little Talons" by Courtney Woods and "Down Among The Dead Men" by Sylvia Feketekuty were the standouts for me.  Most of these stories read as very similar to each other, and they do not contain characters from the games.  It feels like there's a lot of filler in this collection - it would be better if it were culled.
