Alice in Zombieland
by Gena Showalter
4 stars!?
I have to rate this to about 4-3.5, still can't decide. So this book if you have not read the synopsis, is about zombies! Yes! What a shocker! Anyways, from the synopsis I was kind of getting an apocalypse vibe, Nope! This was set in modern times, but with spirit zombies. Yeah I know, it's a little different and I liked how she it up. This book kind of reminded me of a modern spin on Something Strange & Deadly (by Susan Dennard?) but there were differences so it felt like they weren't at war with eachother.
This is definitely a YA a novel, if you absolutely hate YA...Stay away! We have a girl who has been sheltered (Alice) family dies in tragic way (oh no!) of course she is the only one to survive with a few wounds. Girl moves in with grandparents, goes to new school, yada yada yada. Meets the hottest guy there! You can probably predict where this is going....there's even that sweet boy at first she goes after that SPOILER: turns out to be evil SPOILER OVER.
Yes this was like EVERY other YA novel, but I still enjoyed it. The author loves her characters just about as much as Veronica Roth loved hers (read between the lines here hehe). It was pretty predictable and a little humorous, I didn't really find any problems with the characters. The zombie hunting was awesome! The novel wasn't at all slow, it paced quite nicely, and I will look forward to reading the sequel.
