Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West
by Gregory Maguire
challenging
dark
reflective
Skyrocketed to one of my favorites. I’m so glad I gave this book another chance at an age where it feels like I’m mentally prepared for it.
Maguire’s prose — you’ll like it or you won’t. It is blunt and can be crass and is so unendingly human. The spirituality/religious aspects were a welcome surprise and some of my favorite moments of contemplation in addition to the obvious political and humanitarian themes.
What a story Maguire crafted based off the Wizard of Oz (both movie and book).
