At Home with the Beaver: The Story of a Keystone Species by Dorothy Hinshaw Patent
4.0
This book was sent to me by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
“At Home With the Beaver” is an engaging and informative look at the diversity and importance of habits sustained by beavers. Just flipping through the pages will gives an idea of the immense amount of biodiversity made possible by the hardworking beaver, as the stunning full color photo spreads of plant and animal life easily ciatch your eye. The text manages to be packed with information without reading like a textbook. In fact, the author’s well crafted imagery and use of varied literary devices makes the read very pleasing, and at times almost poetic. “At Home with the Beaver” It easily held the interest of my 3 and 4 year olds, but would really be suited best to older elementary students. I know I absolutely would have loved this book as a resource while teaching about North American wildlife for 4th graders.
