First off, there is no shifter god anywhere in this book. There are other, earlier reviews that mention the god doesn't make an appearance until the last couple of paragraphs. I'm going to assume that this book as been edited and sections rewritten since that wasn't what I read (heard, since I read the audiobook). This is rejected mate with no second chance story. Pip was sometimes funny, many times annoying, but definitely not a pushover. You wanna like Sideburns, but he's power hungry and sexist and by the end you are are ready to watch him get swallowed by karma. There is a strict adherence to classism in this society which adds a level of contention with the FMC since she purposely non-conforms. I did get tired of her pushing everyone's buttons all the time, though I understood why. I just don't know if I can read another two books with that constant annoyance. On the upside, I adore the narrator and she is what kept me reading when Pip was getting too much to take. I did enjoy the side characters that made up Pip's inner circle. I hope we get to see them in the other books.
