The plot was good, but an overarching theme in this spice trilogy (at least in the first 2 books) is the uncomfortable references to British colonialism in India. It’s a central theme and is hard to look at with modern sensibilities.

If you can get past that, it’s a fun read with a mystery to solve and walls around hearts to break down.

There’s one romance scene that feels a bit appropriative with lily making herself up as a fetishized version of an Indian woman.
