This book made me an R. F. Kuang stan.

I read this entire book in a day. I started the first couple pages and was immediately surprised by the gall to take on the point of view of an "I'm not racist" white woman. I was immediately enraptured.

It's extremely dramaticized but it adds to the hilarity. Every character in the book is cartoonishly evil. There are thieves, liars, industry disruptors, smooth-talkers, and glad-handers. And all of them are the fakest people imaginable all trying to stay visible, relevant, and popular (or maybe that's just the worldview of this absolutely horrid protagonist).

I never once root for the protagonist. The entire book is like watching a train wreck in slow motion. Just seeing how worse it can get before the book ends. The first couple pages start out with the classic liberalisms of "I voted for Biden/Obama" and descends into the madness of agreeing with the alt-right defending you because "at least someone is buying my book / seeing my (a white person's) side". You see it coming but the journey there is spectacular.

This book is intense and deals with a lot of heavy topics with humor, satire, and wit. If you're a POC this is extremely funny and well-written and will take you back to the good ol' Twitter days. If you're white, nothing about this book should be funny <3
