There are two stories happening simultaneously here: five old college friends, meeting up once again at a beautiful cliffside house on the sea; and back during those college days following Darryl, their neighbor and hopeful friend. But as things progress, it becomes clear that someone knows what the friends did back during those college days, and they aren't willing to let sleeping dogs lie.
I'm not really sure what's going on with this spate of books about friends reuniting at someone's vacation house, but I feel like it's been an absolute flood lately. The first half of this book was promising, increasingly unnerving. The story was atmospheric, damp and creepy. However, I was less than impressed with the conclusions for both storylines. They felt cliched, and ultimately it seemed like the critical events of the story didn't really align with the buildup provided. I felt disappointed by this and how flat each of the characters personalities seemed. A fast thriller, but just an OK one.
