The plot of The Fields seemed quite promising at first but I was bored fairly quickly and at times struggled to pick it up to keep reading. I was probably not the right audience for this book as the plot didn't grip me at all and even at the point when all the various storylines were being explained and connected, I just wasn't interested. It felt at times quite unrealistic (a body is found on farmland but the police sergeant spends the first few minutes with the farmer discussing his crops and the upcoming State Fair!). I felt it was quite messy too; just a lot going on all at once and even though the storylines were all wrapped up at the end, it just wasn't enough to turn the book around for me.
