Summary
Avery and the Hawthorne boys have a new mystery to solve ... a new game to play. It seems that Toby Hawthorne, long believed dead, is the homeless man Avery used to play chess with. Now he's disappeared. Can they find him? What will it cost? And what will they learn about themselves and their own histories along the way?

My Thoughts
I think I enjoyed book two a bit more than I did book one. I enjoyed settling in with familiar characters who have an established rapport with each other and the reader. Could've done without the love triangle, but I did appreciate the lessons Avery (and one or two Hawthorne boys?) began to learn about being willing to risk something real instead of just dabbling in games. Maybe that's why I enjoyed this book a bit more? The connections felt a bit more real?

Content
A bit more "content" than in book one, which I could've done without, personally. A bit more overt oggling (including a game of strip bowling which stopped before too many clothes came off). A few kisses (non descript) including a F/F kiss between minor characters with what seems to be an ongoing situationship. Some minor language with more mature language implied (aka "foxing" instead of an f-bomb). Avery's best friend is explained to be religious, but she's the worst offender with the fake swearing, including encouraging innuendos about Avery's attraction to Jameson. 🤷🏼‍♀️
