The writing of this book absolutely took my breath away. It was musical, beautiful. I read it in two days because I simply couldn’t get enough.

The way this book depicts grief is so incredibly gut wrenching. It hit me like a gut punch sometimes when dynamics in my own family seemed to leap off the pages. It was almost too much. I loved the progression of the characters. I loved unwinding the broken bundle that was Shadi’s life, and why she was where she was in the few days this book takes place in.

My biggest issue is simply the explosion. The synopsis talked about her exploding. Her emotions escaping. I expected to see a crazed, grief stricken, heart pounding, version of Shadi that would finally confront her sister. Her ex best friend. The people in her life that made her feel so small despite the world of pain she was in, and there was nothing. She said nothing. It made the end of for me, feel so unsatisfying. Not to mention it was an ending between her and Ali. I feel like there is more to her story than him, and I just didn’t get that. I wished she spoke more. Aired her pain and grief. I wanted her to get that release, but she doesn’t. I think that’s what makes this book so hard to swallow for me.
