Journey Under the Midnight Sun by Keigo Higashino
1.0

This dragged on and on for me. I usually enjoy darker heavier mysteries like The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo, A Secret History, In the Woods, etc. This book was boring. The main characters are robotic psychopaths with no glimpses of redeeming qualities so you don't feel a connection to them. The detective doesn't reappear under the last 100 pages, so you can't really connect to him and enjoy the hunt. Without any characters to connect with I felt disengaged the whole 539 pages. Lots of shock scenes involving violence against women but no payoff. There aren't really any twists. You know from the beginning who the villains are and guess pretty quickly why they did it.
