Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri

”I know that my achievement is quite ordinary. I am not the only man to seek his fortune far from home, and certainly I am not the first. Still, there are times I am bewildered by each mile I have traveled, each meal I have eaten, each person I have known, each room in which I have slept. As ordinary as it all appears, there are times when it is beyond my imagination.”

pretty good!! lots of beautiful subtle writing and in particular i love how much focus lahiri puts on very small gestures (particularly with hands). she does a great job at writing in little details that go a long way towards making each character in each story feel richly written! as with every short story anthology, some are better than others (the ending on the bibi haldar story especially misses for me) BUT i overall had a great time with these. its the sort of character-contained slice-of-life storytelling that makes up most of my favorite works of art. highly highly recommend!! i especially loved each of the first three stories
