The Dream by Whitney Dineen
2.0

While Ashley was an inspiration in all her hard work, looking to save up for a home and achieve greater stability than her mom ever had when she was alive, Davis was kinda meh. And I don’t know if this is all small southern towns, but the whole let-bygones-be-bygones bullshit got under my skin
SpoilerI’m sorry, I could never see myself befriending a mean girl, and forgiving a closeted gay man—Chad—for throwing me against a locker so hard I think the lock dial numbers are imprinted on my skin, while also threatening to rape me.

The side story of Ashley questioning whether her childhood friend, Buck, might actually be her soulmate instead, was a middling distraction.
The Frothinghams were definitely a sweet and loving family, and quickly embraced Ashley. The story with Davis’ grandmother was bittersweet. And while this is a relatively chaste novel, and I always want to add such titles to my readers advisory, I don’t think this one quite did it for me.
