The Maid's Diary
by Loreth Anne White
Overall it's a pretty solid book. The saving grace is Detective Mallory Van Alst, as with most of these crime stories I tend to be more interested in the perspective of the investigators and how they deal with the horrors/murders they are involved in, while also trying to find the criminal myself through the knowledge they are gaining during their investigation. Unfortunately, I had a bit of difficulty connecting with the victim of this story, Kit, as the responses in her diary entries always felt a little "off" in her character that pinpointed to her being revengeful/spiteful and someone to mistrust. While I sympathized with her trauma, it was a little more obvious that she would be the expected twist at the end. Otherwise, I still enjoyed how the storyline played out and read through the book as quickly as possible to get to the end to confirm my theories.
