A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park

4.0

A Long Walk to Water is the true story of a Dinka boy, Salva, living in South Sudan during the Second Sudanese Civil War and a Nuer girl, Nya, living there a generation later. It is targeted for young readers, so the writing is nothing special, but the story is amazing. It is important that we read stories like this to understand the real hardships that people are facing throughout the world. As someone who has the means to be selective about the quality of the water I drink and the foods I eat, it is easy to take those things for granted. A Long Walk to Water is a good reminder of how much we should appreciate those things and how we should do what we can to help those who are struggling to survive in parts of the world plagued by draughts, wars, disease, and poverty.
