As a child friendship can be a battlefield. We're all little sociopaths until we're 12 and then we're beset with hormones, so it takes a long time to learn what exactly is a healthy relationship.

Frances has a difficult time with Thelma. Her mother warns her that Thelma often gets the best of her, but Frances would rather hurt than be a friendless badger. Frances also needs to talk to someone about the deepest desire of her heart: a real china tea set with blue and white decoration. Unfortunately, Thelma is ready to pounce and she's armed with a plastic tea set with red flowers that's no sir not tacky.

How does Frances make the best of the situation? Which tea set will prevail? Is Thelma worth all of this drama? I loved this book growing up and it still teaches some valuable lessons.
