I think this book will stick with me for a really long time. I read the first 30 pages, left it, then read more than half the book in one sitting and then the last 4 chapters the next day. I wasn’t expecting in that time for the end of chapter fifty to make me cry. Honestly I wasn’t expecting to cry at all, maybe because I went in blind to anything aside from the fact the main character was a scientist.
Transcendent Kingdom is an edict for a specific kind of person and being confronted with my similarities to Gifty outside of just being a Black woman in STEM mashed me up a bit.
Yaa Gyasi is an incredible writer. I’ve not yet decided which out of this and homegoing are my favourite I will have to re-read them both.
