barryhaworth 's review for:
Космический кадет
by Роберт Э. Хайнлайн, Robert A. Heinlein
Continuing my revisiting of the Heinlein juveniles. Space Cadet tells the story of a young man who decides to join the Space Cadets, the military organisation which keeps the peace throughout the solar system. A coming of age story in a futuristic, military setting, this is an entertaining and engaging story, not least because to the care that is taken by the author in imagining his background, even if that background, with martian canals, Venusian swamps and exploded planet five, is no longer consistent with known science. One thing that is refreshing is Heinlein's attitude to the native inhabitants of Mars and Venus - there is never any suggestion of the sort of colonialism so common in real history.
I was surprised when I checked to find that I have not read this book since high school. Although it is not high literature it certainly did not deserve so long an interval between visits.
