1.) Excuse me while I recover from a broken heart. 2.) Allow me to go re-read one of my comfort reads to wash off the sadness of this story. I don’t like to include spoilers in my reviews, but I just have to say this: that ending left me so mixed. The whole way thru the book I was thinking “Man, this is a 4.5 - 5 star read! I should just go ahead and submit my review.” I’m glad I waited because while the whole book was so beautifully written (the writing is lyrical and poetic and lovely,) that ending had me in disbelief. I was so deeply hoping for some kind of redemption — I thought, “Surely, Miss Schwab would not do what it APPEARS she is doing. She would not put Addie thru that much trouble only to keep her from Henry in the end.” But she did. I’m mixed in my feelings about it, because I do believe sometimes it’s a fitting end for a story to end with the characters dissatisfied a little. The world is not perfect in that way. And also Addie’s patience for revenge is nice to see at the end. But just the aching heartbreak I, the reader, am left with 😞 Ugh. Still. A lovely read lol
