XX by Rian Hughes

Wow. I was completely blown away by this mammoth of a book, stunning in both form and content. It’s sci fi, it’s modernism, it’s About modernism in a beautifully meta way, I think it’s permanently altered how I approach the novel format. There were a few times where one of the narrators had an uncomfortably unquestioned Heterosexual Male™ outlook on things, and I couldn’t quite tell if it was intentional or some author projection (wasn’t helped by the fact that this character was your classic probably autistic genius), but it didn’t meaningfully subtract from my enjoyment of XX.
