Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter

Did not finish book. Stopped at 36%.
What even is this book? Lol I picked it up after years of seeing it on paperback favorites tables and wanting an Italian escape read. Unfortunately, this wasn't it. Maybe I should have done more research but it is told over multiple timelines and from multiple people. I had to stop when there was a random chapter on the Donner Party inserted into the other storylines....like.....why? It feels disjointed and I don't really like any of the characters so this is a DNF for me.
