I'm Telling the Truth, but I'm Lying: Essays
by Bassey Ikpi
Truthfully, I have no idea how to review this book. It has left me completely speechless. No matter who you are, it’s like opening up a wound. There is no way to prepare yourself for the feelings you may encounter, but I encourage you to do so anyways.
Bassey Ikpi is a standout writer, as should be obvious by her background in spoken word.
Overall, this is a story of making peace with mental health. Making it to the next day. My main takeaway is to be gentle with people.
CW: basically anything you can imagine, but to name a few.... forced institutionalization, eating disorders, grief, suicide and self harm, toxic relationships
