The Bridge Kingdom by Danielle L. Jensen

This book has zero fantasy in my opinion. Booktok influenced this read and I was so disappointed.
If you are looking for fantasy this book is not for you.
I would classify this as more of a romance/slow burn enemies to lovers to enemies.
This is the epitome of a slow burn with romance really not picking up until about 80% through the book.

The lands are introduced and you get a feeling for the struggles of the people of each kingdom, the dynamics between the kingdoms are explained well, the writing is impeccable with me reporting no issues and finding no misspelled words, missing words or grammatical errors.

This series is action (but do NOT mistake it for fantasy) from the very beginning. It does have very predictable aspects of the plot that leave you wishing for a different twist but overall I enjoyed the read.

While I couldn’t put this down I did miss my usual fantasy aspects and I did struggle with disappointment in the mmc having no personality and realizing if I sat with this plot too long I noticed how easily the world started to fall apart.
The FMC was naive to a fault, she refused to open her eyes and evolve with knowledge which is so frustrating for me as a reading rooting for the main character’s objectives to come to fruition!

I am still going to read the 2nd book of this series to see if the series picks up speed and she develops her mmc.
I may dnf the 2nd book for the first time ever. Stay tuned.

This is NA, not YA.
