I really liked this story... although I cannot fathom how Miss Marple really solved the mystery since she is barely around any of the key players, particularly the murderer... And all her silly meandering side stories that are supposed to explain how she reached her conclusion because, "human nature is much the same everywhere," did nothing to actually explain (to me) her reasoning out the chain of events.
For once though I didn't guess the ending, which is always a plus in an Agatha book! I loved Lucy Eyelesbarrow. She is one of the most likable and interesting characters in all of Agatha Christie's books (or of the ones I have read so far at least). The Crackenthorpe family is horrible as a whole, with an appalling lack of affection for one another. However, because of the EXCELLENT narration of the audiobook by Emilia Fox, I liked almost every single character in this novel! Emilia is a master narrator, and gives each person their own very distinct voice, from the two young boys, to old curmudgeonly Mr. Crackenthorpe, and the capable & intelligent Lucy to the soft spoken fragility of Miss Marple. I give this audiobook version 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and highly recommend it for sure!
