I really wanted to like this book. I really thought it had great ideas and in the beginning I was very intrigued by Mayken and Gil. Sadly I just couldn´t get myself to read more than 3 or 4 Chapters in one sitting because the book was just to boring for me. I´ve needed 2 years to finally finish it and I´m glad I did.
The book just tries to much to intertwine the stories of Gil and Mayken to a point it feels a bit forced and dull. I really want to like Gil as a Character...but then he does stuff likeis obsessed with cigaretts or wants to freeze one of the other kids to death (I get that he was angry because of Enkido...but thats just esshh . Mayken on the other hand I throughout enjoyed in the book...sadlz she just isn´t very important to anything that happens around her...so by the time I was finished I wasn´t really suprised or shooked by anything that happend to her, which left a bitter taste because I really liked her.
That said, I still would say this book can be really enjoyable. It´s not as high pasted as I wanted it to be but still very good written and has just a incredible unique style. The ending (the last 50-60 Pages) picked up the pase quite a bit, which made it the best part of the book (well that and everything dutch did). Even though I´m not the biggest fan of Gil, I really liked the story around him in the end. That was entertaining and I wanted to read more (which is why I could read the last 50 pages a lot faster than the rest of the book).
