I initially DNF'd this book about 15 pages in when it first came out. I didn't like the tone - it seemed so different from the first book, and Maud was just not as interesting a protagonist as Robin. I also didn't love the murder-mystery-on-a-ship of it all. I'm glad I picked it back up, even if it was just an okay read - I was right, I didn't enjoy the murder mystery nor the romance nearly as much as the first book. But I was deeply invested in the Last Contract business, and now knowing the final book is about Ross & Hawthorne (and having met Ross in this book), I'm more excited to read the series' conclusion. I wish I'd liked this one more, nevertheless.
