City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare
5.0

OH. MY. GOD.

I'm at loss for words. This book was everything I had hoped for, and so much more. I don't think I can thank Cassandra Clare enough for writing The Mortal Instruments. I will forever be grateful, for she has changed my way of seeing the world and perceiving life. These characters and this particular story have had such an impact on me.

This book was a perfect ending to one of my all time favorite series. Beautiful, but painful. We had to lose some characters, some that were important to me, in order to get the happy ending they all deserved.

Then again, it was beautifully written and got me hanging on every word. I simply couldn't put it down, I had to know what would happen next.

I wasn't disappointed with how it ended, far from that. I had never imagined it would end like this, yet I couldn't have thought of a better way to tie the knot. It started with Clary, so it's only right that it ended with her. The story had so many unexpected plot twists and I caught myself on the verge of tears and screaming many times. However, it didn't keep me from laughing at certain remarks characters such as Alec, Jace or Simon made.

SpoilerTalking about Simon, I can't believe Clare would do that to him. After all he has been through, how could she just made him forget everything? Of course, he did it willingly and for very noble reasons, but I just can't believe Clare would go through with it. But then again, I can't say I'm completely surprised either, as most authors like to torture us. I'm glad that at least, during Jocelyn and Luke's wedding, he starting recovering his memories. It's just so weird to know he's no longer a vampire and might even become a Shadowhunter.

The epilogue left us with a very beautiful picture, and I'm glad Cassandra Clare decided to end it like this. I couldn't have imagined some better way.

I don't know if I'll read The Dark Artifices, as Emma and the Blackthorns don't interest me much, but I definitely do not regret reading The Mortal Instruments. And I'm sure I'll find myself rereading this amazing book series in the future.
