This book had everything I would love to read about in feminist fiction, and yet, I was really bored reading the book. I think the book might have been better as a non fiction collection of essays from each female protagonist's POV, instead of a work of fiction.

We have a story that is going on in part 1 where the two sisters and the narrator's niece are going through an event together. Then something happens but when we go into part 2, its like the story and the characters from part 1 completely disappeared! I couldnt make sense of it and it felt a little jarring for me as a reader.

I also felt that the writing or maybe the translation was a little too verbose for my liking. We are taken on lengthy descriptions of the weather in Japan, which to me didnt feel like it had any connection to the stories, except for determining the passage of time.

Issues talked about in the book range from body image, body altering, periods, pregnancy, being a single mother, being a career woman, being a home maker, sexuality, rape, abuse..

So yes, as a woman, you will find at least one subject that you will relate to. For me, it was the asexuality part that the narrator talks about. But that was about 5% of the overall book.

It might make a good book for a book club discussion, but I wasn't extremely vowed by the writing style or the story telling style.
