jesterink 's review for:
Fifty Shades of Grey
by E.L. James
UPDATE: Here is the link to my review where I try to sound like a rational adult in addressing what I disliked about this book.
After hearing enough arguments of how this was horrible...without giving me a solid reason as to why it was horrible...I finally just sat down and read it with the intent of writing a thorough response review. I have written that review, but it's still in the editing phase so for now I'll just have to give a much shorter blurb here.
In a nutshell: There is nothing "worth it" in this book unless all you're looking for is a book that has explicit sex, and even then...it's somehow not intimate but instead repulsive. Definitely not romantic. (I don't actually think the sex is even the biggest issue with the book, but that's another argument for another time once my "proper" review is finished.)
As most people have stated, the writing is crap, the characters are flat and selfish. Ana is a manipulative doormat and Grey is an abusive, controlling and possessive [expletive here]. Their story is contrived and fueled off stupid decisions that show no respect for human life and personal weaknesses that neither side show any sign of overcoming. Fifty Shades of Grey is humiliating, degrading and depressing.
All-in-all, I'm glad I read it if not exclusively so I can say all that *points above* without getting the "you haven't read it!" flack. However, I'm also incredibly irritated that this thing is what passes as mainstreamly desirable literature. #nohopeforhumanity #nohopeforfiction
I'll edit this review later with the link to my real, in-depth review.
