5.0
I did not expect to fall this hard. Monsters, magic, forced marriage, and a slow-burn that nearly killed me. Devney Perry nailed her romantasy debut, and I’m obsessed.
What I loved
- Odessa starts off quiet but grows into a total badass
- The slow-burn romance is so worth it (tension for days)
- The world-building is deep but never boring
- Monsters, betrayal, secret identities—yes please
- That one horse trope? Cracked me up 😂
Favorite moments
- Training scenes with the Guardian
- That “touch her and die” moment (you’ll know it when you see it)
- Final chapter = chills and heartbreak
Favorite scene
When Odessa finally stops trying to please everyone and chooses herself. Pure goosebumps.
Why it's 5 stars
This book had everything: found family vibes, dangerous quests, sizzling tension, and real character growth. I was hooked from page one and didn’t want it to end.
Final thoughts
If you like slow-burn enemies-to-lovers, and fantasy with heart? Read. This. Now. I need book two yesterday. 🛡️🕊️

A slow-burn romantasy with light spice, dangerous monsters, and political intrigue.
The Guardian’s secret identity is key to the plot and romance.
