City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare
5.0
"Because that which is new was almost always temporary.
And that which was temporary broke your heart."
I may have have done my heart a grave and rather painful injustice in finishing both The Infernal Devices and The Mortal Instruments back-to-back. After the heart-wrenching finale to the former, this organ which beat so madly for these characters was softened and suffered endlessly with the number of goodbyes both of these series posed. I was, utterly, a mess.
I can say little of these books but that they are just good, old-fashioned fun, done in a breathtakingly beautiful way, written with expertise to make you read word after sentence after page and never want it to stop. I cried and laughed, literally, while traversing these adventures, and I am thankful I got to live them.
Now, here's to the new books in the universe because it feels my heart with glee to realize that there may be many, many more to come.
