I was able to get into the book despite not reading the first book about Rey and Sam. They had a lot of misunderstandings — mostly because of themselves — but author got them to work through it, although with an “emergency” to speed up the process. That bit was a bit unsatisfactory because I feel like I would’ve preferred actually seeing them go through it, really spend time on what happens after they’ve both acknowledged their mistakes and now are working to it.
Also, Faith is adorable, and I would have liked to spend more time on her and her adjustment to the new life, how she warms up to Sam. Like, I can see the connection between her and Rey, but I feel for Sam because I don’t quite see it for him.
