Smoke Gets in Your Eyes: And Other Lessons from the Crematory by Caitlin Doughty

5.0

I love Caitlin Doughty's youtube channel Ask A Mortician, and when I realized she wrote a couple of books, I knew I had to read them. Up until I started watching Ask A Mortician, I never really thought much about how death was a corporate service in much of the world. This is ironic given that I have an aunt who works in the funeral industry, but I've come to learn a lot through Caitlin Doughty's book and videos.

Her memoir is especially interesting to read and provides a bit of context to her YouTube channel as well. It provides a look at how death and cultural practices around death has changed over time in the Western world, but also her experience of entering the industry. Really enjoyed this book, and was really excited to share it with a classmate.
