The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

I fear I am simply not a fan. I do not find it to be a wonderful love story, i do not appreciate the small sprinkles of blatant racism(regardless of wether or not they were a product of the times),nor do I find it to have anything meaningful to say about the world or the human condition. The letters from Fitzgerald to his publisher and friends at the end of the book are interesting, but only go further to solidify my opinion that this author is out of touch with both the general human experience, and the more pointed female experience. And while it should be said that I do appreciate the absolute lack of sexalization of his female characters, their lack of any significant depth undercuts this glowing fact and leaves me feeling rather hollow after the fact.
