I’m not sure what I expected, but I think this wasn’t it. It wasn’t disappointing per se, but it also didn’t wow with anything, I think series peaked around book 2-3 whenever Blake was not being consumed by darkness.

Elena’s character growth was visible throughout book 2-3 and unfortunately was somewhat dependent on claiming Blake and gaining powers from that. But here all of them achieved stalemate. Elena and Blake stopped punishing each other, and ending was achieved through an active (but short) battle and loss.

It did get a tear (or four) out of me during Blake’s song, so I guess that’s what gained the stars lost from the rating of this book otherwise.

And I checked this has multitude of spinoffs and extra books - and yeah, it feels unfinished, and definitely needs them.
