High Voltage by Karen Marie Moning
4.0

This series is literally the longest I’ve ever read. It takes a lot for a series to hook me and actually want to read every book in it. So it’s obviously good. I’d read a lot of reviews about the most recent books in the series that were negative. They spoke about how the series had dragged on too long and it was just repeating and they didn’t like this one specially with KMMs presentation of Ryo and Dani.

I did read this a lot faster than the others and I think it’s because I thought there were a lot of unnecessary details? I don’t know if that’s the right phrase but I never felt like I was properly in Dani’s head the whole time. I do agree that Ryo was really different here than we’ve ever seen him. He’s always been mysterious and so clever and here I felt like there was this youthfulness about him that connoted naivety or inexperience? Which is weird? I’m not sure what specifically gave that vibe.

Despite that I did really enjoy how it ended. It makes sense that Dani would be a Hunter. Her thirst for adventure etc. And it makes sense that Ryo would be perfect for her. There was a part at the end where Dani spoke about understanding each other and I really do think they’re the only 2 people who could ever understand each other fully.

I still have so many questions though. It’s nice that Dani’s got her HEA but we don’t have that for Mac. So I’m glad that we’re revisiting her in the next one and hopefully wrap up her major arc there. But what’s gonna happen to everyone else?? So much to answer. I hope that KMM has gotten back into her groove a little bit and the next one really gets into the characters heads a bit more.

I think the best way to describe my feelings about this was as if she was telling me what was happening in HV but I wasn’t reading the book. Like id just said to her oh tell me about book 10 and she gave me this. I don’t think it went as deep as some of the others. That being said I still enjoyed it but I hope for a bit more from the next.
