Ms. Marvel by Saladin Ahmed, Vol. 3: Outlawed by Saladin Ahmed

hopeful inspiring lighthearted tense

4.25

Volume 3 focuses on the Marvel Outlawed event, where after a disastrous mission all teen heroes are outlawed and Kamala is caught in the middle of it. It’s well-written but I’m so tired of these events that are reminiscent of civil war 😩 We get it! The government doesn’t like superheroes! Please stop reusing the same plot 😩 Unfortunately The Magnificent Ms. Marvel was canceled so the series ended with this event. Which is a shame because this creative team was excellent and I loved how they introduced so many new elements to Kamala’s world while maintaining the feel from Wilson’s run. It felt like Ms. Marvel had levelled up in every way and I loved it. I wish we could have had more Ms. Marvel from this team.

The best part about volume 3 is the introduction of a hero called Amulet aka Fadi Fadlalah! He’s a new original character created by Saladin Ahmed & Sara Alfageeh. In his few appearances he brought so much joy to the story and was a welcome addition to Kamala’s world.

While volume 3 as a whole is unsatisfying, the final issue does what Ms. Marvel comics do best, celebrate our hero and her friends. The brown girl superhero of my dreams made it to 75 issues, and that is definitely worth celebrating 🥳 ⚡️
