Took me 52 days to get through this 2,8 million words long tome of a web serial volume and I can confidendtly say that I loved most of it.

This was probably the most controversial of the volumes yet since after the events of the climax in volume 7 I had some major doubts that the story could even function like it used to anymore. But I must say: This major shake up probably was even a good thing since it gave a lot of room for other parts and characters in this immense world to shine brightly. So yeah major kudos to the author for pulling that off.

I think this whole thing can be split in 5 major arcs of which two of them I completely adored and was some of the absolute best this series has given us so far. These arcs featured major characters from previous volume (H, B, N) but either changed the setting / locations completely and gave us some new and truly character pairings / character interactions. Also the emotional impact within these was huge. The humor and silliness is kind of always present but we also went to some truly dark places and it was just a rollercoaster of emotion: sad, hopeful, funny. Just a complete package!

Two more of the major arcs I really liked. One of them was just teased since like forever ago and finally happened (with the series main child character being the focal point of attention) and the other featured one of my most disliked characters in the series (L) but due to a new setting and surroundings I absolutely warmed up to them and it certainly helped that they were accompanied to this new place by one of my favorite characters of the whole series (S).

The final arc featuring R was kinda meh. I didn't dislike these chapters but they just lacked the emotional impact of the other arcs for me and I had a hard time caring for most of the new characters that got introduced there.

It was very cool seeing all these arcs come together in the end for a huge climax. And it was great seeing literally hundreds of named characters coming together. Just gave it a really epic scope but also it was a little light on tension and it was mainly curiosity of how it will all resolve that made the climax into a page turner.

So not my favorite ending of any of the volumes but there were so many amazing parts in the journey to get there. There were at least 5 different chapters and also in different arcs that have the potential to be named best chapter ever. And will certainly also make for great rereads at some time.

With that being said: I name volume 8 as my favorite part of The Wandering Inn yet.
