After seeing the other reviews critiquing the pacing, the lore building, among other things, the only thing I found I could agree with was the similarities between female character designs that didn't have enough differentiation. Yet, other than that, I disagree with the slow pacing and the over exposition comments, and I enjoyed reading this much more than expected. Starting this, I thought it was going to be a somewhat interesting story but with a main focus on sex, and so I didn't have high expectations in the first place but was curious enough about the concept. Turns out, this was more soft core than anything crazy, and with a very interesting world and set of characters that kept me reading and wanting to know more. I actually thought this was pretty fast paced compared to other people, and maybe that was because I truly was interested in the world and the concepts within it. I wasn't upset about switches in views because I enjoyed those sections too.
I can't help but think that other people clearly went into reading this with other expectations, were met with a neat story and set-up for the rest of the series, and it just tuned those people out completely and that's why they felt it wasn't paced well and was boring. I honestly don't even care that the back cover summary only really begins at the end of the story, because I get it, it is a comic series! It sometimes takes a while to get it moving along because of set-up, and I loved getting to know the characters along to way, so I felt the structure turned out well for me at least. I loved the relationships between the cubi and cupids and the battle over the ideas of love and desire and how natural it is to have both, and I anticipate this will be a central theme for the series as a whole.
In general, this was fun, and I will certainly be reading the next volume and I'll also try out Linda Sejic's story Punderworld as well because I would love to see more of Hades' personality.
