I absolutely adore this book. It's addictive, it's gripping, the plot leads you on a whirlwind journey allowing this incredible world to unfold in front of you. I recommend everyone read The Final Empire.

Like all books, it isn't without its flaws. At times, Vin's character development feels inconsistent and there are a few moments where it seems as though Sanderson treats the abominable cruelty inflicted against one group as an afterthought, or more flippantly than I think it deserves. Another issue I occasionally found was the use of one particular character as pure exposition through dialogue. Mostly he builds mystery into the world and lets things unfold naturally, but occasionally the writing would get bogged down in a technical magic explanation or history lesson. Many of the side characters have little time to be fleshed out, and as such there's just less connection with some members of the crew than others.

Overall though this remains one of my favourite fantasy novels ever written - the world alone is more than enough reason to love this book, the action sequences are gripping and inventive (so many creative tricks!), and the characters are lovable. Who doesn’t love a romance x fantasy x class warfare trifecta!
