I shouldn’t be surprised how expertly Christopher Ruocchio manages to surprise me, make me fall in love, and cause me pain. Can another author make me love a character as much? Or a world? This book is over a thousand pages, but it doesn’t feel like it. The pacing, turns, and tension are a master class, and I would gladly read another thousand tomorrow. I eagerly anticipate the next (and final) installment, though I know where we’re headed and fear it.
I would never have guessed that Disquiet Gods would supplant Howling Dark as my favorite. The prose and philosophical reflections have never been better, and they will stay with me until I exit this mortal plane. When this series is over, I will definitely be reading whatever Ruocchio puts out next.

Always forward, always down. Never left or right.
