Ms. Demeanor by Elinor Lipman

Cute and different. The dialogue felt more like awkward real life conversations than literary dialogue. She would often go off on random tangents or elaborate on strange details. There are a lot of full recipes of weird food and one whole chapter is the actual New York law on becoming unsuspended from practicing law. The story between Jane and Perry was great and felt more real than a typical romance book. But with everyone else, Jane is extremely judgmental and horrible at understanding others’ motivations. Especially with Mandy. And as angry as she is for her old coworkers to abandon her, she sure has no problem abandoning her friends made during her confinement.
