The Hunting Wives by May Cobb
2.5

I picked this one up since my friend highly recommended the show to me! I wanted to give this a read before I dove into the show.

I wish I liked it more than I did. I love a little messy rich people story, and this book did not disappoint with that piece! However, I am always a cheating storyline hater, so this one was already fighting an uphill battle for me. Due to the nature of the book, the characters were all awful people, which gets tiresome after a little while. I can look past those issues if everything else about the book is enjoyable, but the writing literally shocked me at how mediocre it was LOL. I do not usually notice issues in writing when listening to a book (I usually only see it/feel it when physically reading one), but I remember thinking multiple times “did she really write it like that?”. I am shocked at how often we heard about her lattes she was drinking, or how some of the descriptions were written in a very clunky way.

I absolutely adore a murder mystery, and I wished that we spent more time digging into that instead of repeatedly characterizing these characters in the exact same way for 70% of the book.

Pick it up if you want to have a lowkey experience while reading with a little bit of spice and a handful of issues that can be forgiven if you are a bit less picky than me.
