Carley Fortune has become a new favorite author of mine. Her lighthearted, but also meaningful books just seem to hit the spot during the summer. And while I enjoy her stories, I wasn’t incredibly in love with her characters this time around. It was still a good novel, but not my favorite of hers.
This book hits all the right notes for a great summer and beach read. It’s got romance, such good angst, personal growth amongst her characters. And, honestly, nobody does a dual timeline quite like this author. For 70% of the book, I was in it.
But I didn’t love the FMC and MMC. I feel like their chemistry wasn’t quite right. I also feel like the MMC’s reasons for being so aloof and hot and cold weren’t well explained or fleshed out. I wasn’t particularly rooting for them to get together.
I still really enjoyed the read, but I didn’t fully love the main couple together. I would read if you love dual timelines, supreme angst, lighter and heartfelt reads, and just a solid romance.
