Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson

Warbreaker is an excellent novel--one that got me hooked on sci-fi/fantasy and Brandon Sanderson. Sanderson creates a new world, with magical powers that are all his own. The characters--including a sword that can speak to it's owner--are charming and believable, and you'll adore them to pieces. I loved it.
