The Son & His Hope
by Pepper Winters
"Do you see? Do you understand? The world itself is life and death. Every breath is life and death. Every dream. Every afternoon. Every breeze and falling raindrop. You have to accept that. You have to finally give in to life because you've already given in to death. We are all givers of life and grantees of death - accept that you can't change that...and you're free."
The Son & His Hope...
I can't say it without getting goosebumps; can't think it without feeling a cold chill.
The third installment to The Ribbon duet (yes, duet = two, I said third), takes the reader on a journey of Jacob Wild, Wild One, following the events that occur in The Girl & Her Ren.
This is quite possibly the most impactful for me, on a personal level. The entire series is absolutely beautiful - without a doubt, but The Son & His Hope is raw, hurtful, gritty, emotional and honest.
The story of Jacob and Hope story reached into my chest, ripped out my heart and every attached muscle, reconstructed it piece by piece and put it back where it belongs. A journey of devastation, trauma, love found and love lost, an admittance of truth, and ultimately, healing. Jacob's story is not easy and what's more is I relate to him and Hope on an entirely different level than Della and Ren.
The truth of loss, love, growth and acceptance is never an easy pill to swallow, but Pepper Winters has found a way to weave open wounds shut, to guide us to a semblance of peace and to find joy in life even when it is full of the most horrendous sorrows.
