Insolent by Cynthia A. Rodriguez

4.0

I don’t normally subscribe to the half stars when doing ratings, but I’m going to today.

I’m giving Insolent by Cynthia A. Rodriguez 3.5 stars.

There are a few men in this book who are from Spain, and obviously their first language is Spanish. I love when authors use other cultures, and use other languages to enhance their stories. What I don’t love is when they don’t translate it in any way. Thankfully I read this book on kindle so I could just highlight the sentence and the translation popped up- if I had to read this book in paperback, I’d have probably DNF’d it. Simply for the fact that I hate missing pieces.

Outside of that, I really enjoyed this story! This sinister fairytale is a spin of a Brave, which I haven’t seen so I cannot inform you whether Rodriguez did the movie it’s dark justice or not. (In my twisted mind, I love the similarities between the originals and these dark alternate universes these authors have created for us.)

Moira is raised in royalty, but not in the traditional way. I loved her character, her strength, and control. The way she knew who she was and owned it.

I do have some questions that weren’t answered, so that’s a little annoying as well, but not terribly so, I can guess as to what happened after a certain event (don’t want to give a spoiler).

At the end of the day, I definitely enjoyed this story (which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 3 with my actual rating being 3.5). I would recommend this book, and I do hope there is a follow up story of some type! I’m not quite ready to be finished with Moira!
