Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie

This book is beautifully written and reads like a bedtime story a parent reads to a child. However it is so incredibly racist that iI cannot imagine reading it to anyone you her than middle or high school just because the reader needs to be able to understand how to analyze the context of the books writing, the way this was written based on children’s stereotypical play (cowboys and Indians, pirates, and playing house) so even the stereotypes of the time are heightened. I would envision it as a literature unit where we could discuss things like time and place of writing, original intended audience, as well as the moral choices of modern directors when bringing such a script to the modern stage, etc.
