I understand that the author was trying to convey the main character’s struggle in a meaningful and realistic way that spoke to the struggles of being a woman in a world ruled by men. However it is also a fantasy novel, and it would have been nice to have felt some sort of gratification. I appreciate that the protagonist could be perceived as unlikable in a way that challenged the reader's expectation of how a woman should act— that felt intentional and powerful, and I understand the intention behind not wrapping the story up in a nice bow. But when the main character once AGAIN finds herself in the same exact situation over and over and over again… I lost interest. I finished it but may not care to read the sequel when it is released unless there is hope for some kind of satisfactory ending.
